KNIGHTS WIN BIG AT UCR MESA COMPETITION OF THE YEAR

On Saturday, February 25th, our MESA Knights travelled to UC Riverside to compete in our big MESA competition of the year.  Our students competed with a variety of projects ranging from simple egg drop packages to complicated Rube Goldberg devices and electronic prosthetic arms.  They also competed in individual and team math tests and speech competitions.  Our Knights made us proud bringing home lots of awards and representing our school with pride and good sportsmanship.  Please congratulate the following students for their success at the competition.  They will be advancing to the regional competition to be held at San Diego State University on April 1st.

Seniors Victor Manzanera, Ernesto Rojas and David Sumadsad were interviewed by the Press Enterprise during their Prosthetic Arm competition.  Please follow the link to read the article about the event and to see a couple pictures of the students during the competition.

KNIGHTS WIN BIG IN MESA ROBOTICS RESCUE MISSION

This past Saturday, November 12th, our Knights participated in the MESA Robotics Invitational at UC Riverside.  The theme this year was "Wildfire Inferno."  It was an intense competition in which the students had to design, build and program a robot to autonomously rescue victims. They also had to design it so that they could clear brush, lay down a sand fire line and push in buttons and switches and turn valves that represent electricity and gas lines. The students gave a presentation about the future of fire fighting which included a discussion about the engineering design process for their particular robot.  Our Knights made us proud earning the following awards:

MESA'S "TEAM VED" EMERGES VICTORIOUS IN SEAPERCH COMPETITION LAST SPRING

On March 19th, three Rialto High School MESA teams competed against a dozen other high school teams in the regional Seaperch Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Competition hosted by The Science Experience and the U.S. Navy. They had to design, build, and test a device to retrieve orbs, complete an obstacle course in the shortest time and give a formal presentation about their project. Our Knights persevered through unexpected challenges to complete each task. Please congratulate the following students for their victory:

Third Place - Team VED

WHAT IS MESA?

STEM.jpgMathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) is an academic preparation program for pre-college, community college and university-level students. Established in 1970 in California, the program provides academic support to students throughout the education pathway so they will excel in Math and Science and ultimately attain four-year degrees in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) fields. The program has successfully been replicated in over a dozen other states.

MESA CON BUILDS EXCITEMENT FOR WHAT'S AHEAD

At Rialto High's first MESA Day of the year, Mr. Thompson (MESA Advisor) shared the projects our students are working on that will go on to compete in future competitions, including at UC Riverside and a MESA event at Knotts Berry Farm. Students and families were able to participate in STEM activities and learn more about Engineering and Physics.
